Lewis County Community Trails and several partners are coordinating efforts to bring the first annual Willapa Hills Trail Fat Tire Ride & Festival, which will bring riders 22 miles from Chehalis to Pe Ell on mostly flat trails with minimal grade and back again the next day. Overnight camping and a festival including live music and more will take place in the town of Pe Ell, a major stop along the trail.
As for the trail itself, 5.5 miles are paved between Chehalis and Adna, with the rest being finely crushed gravel. Any bicycle other than a lightweight road bike will be suitable for the event.
This ride isn't a race, but is instead geared for those wanting to experience one of Washington's newest rail-to-trail corridors and enjoy life away from the hustle and bustle for a couple of days. Local farms will have products available for purchase along the route, and a side excursion to Rainbow Falls State Park affords the opportunity to see one of West Lewis County's most notable geographic features.
Camp overnight in Pe Ell and enjoy the hospitality and friendliness of our westernmost Lewis County community.
Cost for the event is minimal, starting at $30 for an individual and $80 for a family. Proceeds from the event will be used to help fund further improvements to the Willapa Hills Trail.
