Lewis County Historical Ride

The Lewis County Historical Ride is one of Lewis County's longest-running organized bicycle rides, and this year will be the 35th annual event!

Get your road bikes ready for May 13 and make your way to Stan Hedwall Park in Chehalis for the ride, which offers four route options. Easy 20 and 40 mile routes are offered, along with moderate 68 and 100-mile routes. All routes take you through some of Lewis County's prime back roads and offer views of some natural wonders, wildlife, farm life and more.

Choose the 68 or 100-mile ride to get the best experience and glide through scenic prairies and rolling hills in the northern, central and southern portions of Lewis County. The longer routes take participants by three of Lewis County's most important cultural heritage sites.

The shorter routes offer a fantastic opportunity for families to enjoy a ride on country roads with very little traffic to worry about. The 20 and 40-mile rides go through Napavine on some very scenic roads that offer views of Mount Rainier and Mount St. Helens on a clear day.

Food stops are included in the ride, and the course is marked. SAG wagons will also sweep the course, and members of the local amateur radio group assist in taking accountability at each checkpoint.

Cost of the event is $35 by May 6 and $45 the day of the ride for the 20 and 48 mile options; it's $45 by May 6 and $55 the day of the ride for the 68 and 100-mile options. Details and registration for the ride, which takes place annually the day before Mothers Day, are available at the Centralia-Chehalis Optimist Club's website.

Rest stops are available at three of our most beloved historical areas: the Evaline School, a two-room schoolhouse north of Winlock; Cowlitz Mission (more formally known as St. Francis Xavier Mission), the oldest Catholic congregation in Washington state; and the Claquato Church, one of the longest-standing churches in the western United States.

Don't want to drive down the morning of the event? Arrive the night before and grab a hotel! Check out our Lodging page for ideas.
