Discover Lewis County is pleased to announce that it has received a $15,000 Rural Tourism Research and Data Grant from State of Washington Tourism. This grant will be instrumental in efforts to enhance the region’s tourism economy, providing valuable insights into how residents and local businesses can maximize benefits from the burgeoning tourism industry in East Lewis County.
In a strategic collaboration, Discover Lewis County has partnered with the Packwood Trails Project and Destination Management Advisors. This partnership aims to apply advanced destination management techniques to gather and analyze county-wide occupancy data. The primary focus is on developing a shoulder season strategy that aims to generate consistent revenue streams and support year-round employment opportunities.
“This is an important step in delivering on our strategic goals. We want to create experiences that improve quality of life for residents, support small businesses, and foster collaboration,” said Todd Chaput, Lewis County Economic Alliance and Discover Lewis County Program Manager.
The collaboration leverages funds from Lewis County Lodging Tax and state tourism dollars, ensuring that the financial burden is carried by visitors rather than residents. This approach aligns with broader county-wide efforts to develop a cohesive tourism strategy that benefits the entire community.
“We are excited to engage with the community and understand their needs,” said Jon-Paul Bowles, CEO of Destination Management Advisors. “Working with such strong partners allows us to ensure that our strategies are not only effective but also sustainable in the long term.”
Community outreach for the shoulder season strategy will continue throughout the summer, inviting East Lewis County residents and business owners to contribute their insights and suggestions.
