Lewis County offers a unique blend of natural beauty and outdoor adventures. One such adventure that captures the essence of our scenic region is the annual Ride the Willapa Bike Ride. This event has become a favorite among cyclists of all levels, drawing participants from near and far to experience the charm of rural Lewis County and the beautiful landscapes along the Willapa Hills Trail.
The Willapa Hills Trail is a former railway line converted into a multi-use trail, perfect for cycling, walking, and horseback riding. The trail winds through picturesque farmlands, forests, and alongside the Chehalis River, offering riders a chance to enjoy the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
Ride the Willapa takes place early in the summer each year, this year on June 22–23, 2024. Cyclists gather early in the morning at the Veterans Memorial Museum, just off Interstate 5 Exit 77 in Chehalis. Riders of all ages and skill levels come together, creating a fun-filled summer atmosphere.
Participants have the option to choose from various ride lengths, catering to different preferences and fitness levels. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist looking for a challenging ride or a family seeking a leisurely outing, there’s a route suited for everyone. New this year is a 5-mile Family Fun Ride, a route for families with young kids to enjoy the trail. All routes include rest stops where riders can refuel, enjoy local snacks, and chat with fellow participants.
As cyclists pedal through the Lewis County countryside, they pass by our charming small towns, historic landmarks, and scenic viewpoints. Towns like Chehalis and Pe Ell showcase small-town hospitality, inviting riders to take a break and explore local shops and cafes.
