Mineral Lake Fishing Derby: A Lewis County Spring Fishing Tradition

Mar 14, 2026

Each spring, anglers from across Washington gather at Mineral Lake for the annual Mineral Lake Fishing Derby, one of the most anticipated family-friendly fishing events in Lewis County. This year’s derby takes place April 25–26, 2026, bringing two full days of fishing, prizes, and community fun to the scenic lake near Mount Rainier National Park.

Hosted by the Mineral Lake Lions Club and supported by the local community, the derby has become a beloved tradition for families, seasoned anglers, and first-time fishers alike. The event celebrates the opening of Washington’s spring fishing season and offers a chance for participants to test their luck landing one of Mineral Lake’s famous trout.

Derby Details and Schedule

The derby officially begins 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, and runs through 11:00 a.m. Sunday, April 26, with final weigh-ins closing at that time. Winners are announced later Sunday at 12:00 p.m., and anglers must be present to claim prizes.

Participants compete for prizes awarded to the five largest fish, measured first by weight, then by length, and finally by girth. In addition to derby prizes, raffle drawings, and other activities add to the weekend excitement.

Registration begins Friday, April 24, at 12:00 p.m. at the Lions/Legion Community Building in Mineral. Derby tickets cost $10 per person, and participants must purchase their ticket before their fishing line hits the water. All boats participating in the derby must also be registered prior to launching on the lake.

Family-Friendly Fun for All Ages

The Mineral Lake Fishing Derby is known for its welcoming atmosphere and activities for anglers of every age. Youth fishing opportunities, raffles, and prize drawings help make the event fun for the entire family.
