Nestled in the picturesque community of Mineral lies a hidden gem waiting to be discovered by outdoor enthusiasts and, most specifically, anglers searching for their next big catch. Not only does Mineral Lake offer a picture-perfect reflection of nearby Mount Rainier, but this lake is also well known as “Home of the 10-Pound Trout.” The opening weekend of fishing season is just a few weeks away, and anticipation is building for this year’s big event.
Anglers from far and wide will head to Mineral Lake on April 27–28, 2024 for the 31st Annual Mineral Lake Fishing Derby. For decades now, the Mineral Lake Lions Club and Mineral community have hosted this annual Opening Day fishing celebration. Boats will be launched, fishing lines will be cast, and the anticipation of a big catch will be everywhere. Whether you’re a seasoned angler or new to the fishing scene, everyone is welcome to try their luck at landing the biggest catch of the day.
As the day comes to an end, gather around the campfire to share stories of the day’s adventures. Enjoy a stay at one of the nearby cabins, campgrounds, and vacation rentals. A trip to Mineral Lake, surrounded by towering trees and stunning views of majestic Mount Rainier, provides a relaxing and recharging getaway.
NOTE:
To ensure compliance with State of Washington Aquatic Invasive Species Decontamination (WAC 220-220-220 7a-b), pre-registration will be required before launching on Mineral Lake to enter your catch in the derby (dock or shore-caught fish do not require pre-registration; they do require the purchase of a derby ticket if entering the derby). The derby begins Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 12:01 a.m. The deadline to enter catch is Sunday, April 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Tickets are $10 each. All derby participants must purchase a derby ticket before their fishing line hits the water.
