This 1972 Pontiac Grand Prix, owned by Donald and Natalie Parker, was thrown 60 feet by Mount Saint Helens’ May 1980 blast. Together with their nephew Rick, Donald and Natalie had legally entered the “Blue Zone” after signing a liability waiver so they could visit their copper claim at the Black Rock Mine. They had hiked a mile in to their cabin when the eruption occurred. All three perished, some of the 57 human lives lost to the volcano on that day. Almost all of those who died were in legally accessible areas or had permits to enter more restricted zones.
