Packwood Lake was once considered for an electricity project, and a cabin adjacent to the beautiful waters was built in 1910 by people working for Valley Development Company. The U.S. Forest Service assumed control in 1917, and the cabin became a seasonal administrative post for the Forest Service. Though no longer in use, it is in exceptional condition and is accessible today. The cabin is included on the National Register of Historic Places as it represents an architectural style used commonly in that era.
