Salkum
About Salkum
Ever since the construction of Mayfield Dam in the 1960s, residents of Salkum — and those who visit — have a front-row seat to some of the most placid and serene lake life in Washington state along Mayfield Lake. Take a boat out for the afternoon, visit Ike Kinswa State Park and hike the lake’s shoreline, or park your RV (or pitch a tent, for that matter) at one of the area’s many campgrounds.
The Cowlitz River, Mill Creek and other waterways make Salkum a beautiful spot to enjoy a day or two. Both Salkum is within two hours of the White Pass Ski Area, Mount Rainier National Park and the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
Despite its small size, Salkum is home to a post office and a library that hosts events and activities for residents of all ages. With its natural beauty, outdoor recreation opportunities, and friendly community, Salkum is a great place to visit or call home.
