Beautiful Northwest Lodging houses are the perfect starting place for every activity, as we find ourselves in the very center of Gifford Pinchot National Forest and the White Pass Scenic Byway (Highway 12). Hwy 12 is a veritable smorgasbord of brown recreation signs where you can satisfy your activity appetite every season of the year with fishing, boating, windsurfing, swimming, skiing (cross country and downhill), snowboarding, snowmobiling, sledding, hiking, horseback riding, kayaking, mountain bikes, birding and much, much more.
Bring your cameras and binoculars. Our houses are 7 miles from the southeast entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park, offering vistas and hiking without end. The main visitor areas are Paradise, Sunrise and Longmire.
Goat Rocks, Tatoosh, and William O. Douglas Wilderness areas are accessed directly from the city of Packwood, WA, where you can explore numerous hiking trails with varying degrees of difficulty.
Take an easy day trip to Windy Ridge (48 mi.) from the houses and touted as the best view of the crater on Mount Saint Helens, or a shorter drive to the Ohanapecosh visitor center in Mt. Rainier National Park (11 mi. from the houses). Once at Ohanapecosh, take the .4 mile hot springs nature hike or the longer Silver Fall hike of 1.2 miles (one way). If that doesn’t suit, Grove of the Patriarchs with its massive old growth giants, is only a short distance from both. Hold on to your hat as your eyes sweep from root to crown.
White Pass ski area is 19.3 mi. (23 min.) east of our lodging and accessible year round. The Cayuse and Chinook passes are also accessible, weather permitting.
Are you interested in a Cascade mountain vacation rental? Our Washington wilderness vacation rentals are just what you need. We are ideal for hunters that want the enjoyment of the outdoors without the discomforts of “roughing it”, and a pleasant place for their wives who might prefer more casual activities including antique stores and a trip to the The Mountain Goat Coffee Roasters and Bakery (aka Butter Butte Coffee Company) where they roast their own beans.
For the more spiritually minded, this Packwood, WA vacation rental is a great place to retreat for a time of solitude and reflection. It would take a Herculean effort to keep thoughts earthbound instead of soaring towards heaven like eagles in exaltation over the hoary topped mountain in all her grandeur.
